Tab projection weld nuts can feature single or multiple projections, which facilitate a weld that is both strong and penetrating. These weld nuts are particularly well-suited for use with heavier gauge materials and can be applied to flat or curved surfaces.

Hex-3 Projection Weld Nuts

Hex-3 projection (both low-carbon mild and stainless steel) weld nuts ensure reliable surface contact during welding, even if the surface is not completely flat. The pilot accurately locates the nut in the pilot hole and keeps it centered. These weld nuts feature strong torque-out strength/resistance and can be used for a wide range of applications.

Hex-6 Projection Weld Nuts

This hex-shaped Projection Weld Nut is equipped with six large, uniformly shaped, weld projections that ensure superior contact with the weld surface. These are available in three pilot heights to accommodate a variety of base material thicknesses.

Flange Weld Nuts

Hex weld nuts with flanges are designed for greater strength and can meet higher proof loads in many welding applications. Performance is often better than that of a standard hex weld nut due to the larger bearing surface and the projection's size and placement. Because of the flange, the spacing between the threads and the projections is increased, reducing the chance of weld splatter on the threads.

Stamped flange weld nuts are specifically designed to be welded into properly sized holes on another metal surface. The specialized round-and-slab base-flange weld-nut design helps overcome problems associated with other welded nuts.

Floating Cage Weld Nuts

Floating cage nuts are specifically manufactured with a floating nut that is held within a cage or retainer design to allow off-center or misaligned screws to be installed.

Projection weld nuts provide high torque, making them suitable for heavy-duty industrial applications. Projection weld nuts are generally resistant to twisting and deforming under higher-torque conditions. These specialized weld nuts have 3 projections that melt into the host material during welding, providing a fast and secure hold.

However, other materials, such as stainless steel, are available depending on the parent material in the application. Weld nuts are available with either inch or metric threads. The Projection Weld Nut Installation Process

Projection weld nut installation comprises three distinct components. First, the nut with its projections is placed in contact with the sheet metal it will be welded to. Then the current and the force are applied almost simultaneously, within a specific time frame. This causes the now superheated projection to collapse rapidly under pressure, and fusion with the base metal takes place. Once the hex weld nut’s welding cycle is completed, the weld nut and substrate cannot be separated without destruction of the workpiece.
