Weld nuts are designed and engineered to be welded to another metallic object, providing high-strength fastening in restricted or limited-space areas. Weld nuts are available in numerous sizes, shapes, thicknesses, and configurations. Depending on the application, welding nuts can sometimes be used as a substitute for standard mechanically clinched fastener products. The generally thicker design of a hex weld nut makes it ideal for heavy-duty applications, in place of a tab nut that is typically used for lighter jobs.
Weld nuts form extremely strong bonds. However, due to the necessary welding process, the welding nuts are not plated for corrosion protection; subsequent painting or plating would be required to protect the assembly from corrosion after welding is complete.
Product Specification
Premium Weld Nut Options
Weld nuts are highly specialized fasteners that are designed to be welded to another metal object. There are numerous weld nut options to suit a wide range of applications. Some weld nut types include round weld nuts, square projection weld nuts, tab spot weld nuts, tab projection weld nuts, hex-3 projection weld nuts, hex-6 projection weld nuts, flange weld nuts, stamped flange weld nuts, and floating cage weld nuts. At Juxin Fasteners, we provide a broad range of weld nut options for your project needs.

Round Weld Nuts
Round weld nuts have a circular base with weld projections to facilitate welding.
Round Projections
Chisel point projections
Square, Projection Weld Nuts
Square, projection weld nuts are equipped with four large, uniformly shaped weld projections that ensure exceptionally strong and reliable welds.
Piloted square four projection weld nut
Piloted square projection weld nut
Unpiloted square projection weld nut
Tab Spot Weld Nuts
Tab spot weld nuts are designed for spot welding on flat workpieces. They have a locating boss around the threads to locate it in a pilot hole.
Single tab
Double tab
Twin pilot
Single tab w/ target
Tab Projection Weld Nuts
Tab projection weld nuts can feature single or multiple projections, which facilitate a weld that is both strong and penetrating. These weld nuts are particularly well-suited for use with heavier gauge materials and can be applied to flat or curved surfaces.
Single projection
Dual rib
Four projection
Hex-3 Projection Weld Nuts
Hex-3 projection (both low-carbon mild and stainless steel) weld nuts ensure reliable surface contact during welding, even if the surface is not completely flat. The pilot accurately locates the nut in the pilot hole and keeps it centered. These weld nuts feature strong torque-out strength/resistance and can be used for a wide range of applications.
Short and long pilot
DIN 929 hex weld
Locking hex weld
Hex-6 Projection Weld Nuts
This hex-shaped Projection Weld Nut is equipped with six large, uniformly shaped, weld projections that ensure superior contact with the weld surface. These are available in three pilot heights to accommodate a variety of base material thicknesses.
Flange Weld Nuts
Hex weld nuts with flanges are designed for greater strength and can meet higher proof loads in many welding applications. Performance is often better than that of a standard hex weld nut due to the larger bearing surface and the projection's size and placement. Because of the flange, the spacing between the threads and the projections is increased, reducing the chance of weld splatter on the threads.
Through the hole
On the Material
Ring projection with square body
Ring projection with a closed end
Rectangle flange with 4 projections
Stamped Flange Weld Nuts
Stamped flange weld nuts are specifically designed to be welded into properly sized holes on another metal surface. The specialized round-and-slab base-flange weld-nut design helps overcome problems associated with other welded nuts.
Round base stamped flange weld nuts.
Round base through-hole weld nuts
Round base with 3 projections
Slab-based flanged weld nuts
Floating Cage Weld Nuts
Floating cage nuts are specifically manufactured with a floating nut that is held within a cage or retainer design to allow off-center or misaligned screws to be installed.
What are Projection Weld Nuts?
Projection weld nuts provide high torque, making them suitable for heavy-duty industrial applications. Projection weld nuts are generally resistant to twisting and deforming under higher-torque conditions. These specialized weld nuts have 3 projections that melt into the host material during welding, providing a fast and secure hold.
Metal Weld Nut Materials
Typical weld nut suppliers offer weld nuts manufactured from low-carbon steel with a plain finish. However, other materials, such as stainless steel, are available depending on the parent material in the application. Weld nuts are available with either inch or metric threads. As a premium weld nut distributor, Juxin Fasteners serves American and European (metric, DIN style) weld fasteners. The weld nut material options that we offer include:
Stainless Steel
Low Carbon Steel (plain finish)
Aluminum
Stainless Steel Weld Nut Advantages
Stainless steel weld nuts are suitable for use in materials with a hardness rating of HRB-70 or less. In particular, stainless steel nuts provide the following benefits:
Corrosion resistance for a variety of applications and challenging environments
Offers a strong internal thread
Ideal for applications that need non-corrosive fasteners. Healthcare applications and food preparation (316 S.S. available as a special option) benefit from stainless steel weld nuts due to their natural, hygienic properties.
Advantages of Low-Carbon Steel Weld Nuts
Benefits of carbon steel weld nuts include:
Cost-effective when compared to other materials
Ideal for high-volume machine-welded parts
Ideal for light and medium applications
Aluminum Weld Nut Advantages
Aluminum weld nuts should be suitable for use on several aluminum alloys. Benefits for aluminum weld nuts would include:
Lightweight
High strength-to-weight ratio
Resistant to environmental and chemical corrosion
Ideal for applications that require the lightweight properties aluminum offers. Aluminum weld nuts work well for applications that need corrosion resistance.
Choosing the Correct Weld Nut
Each job you take on will require the use of different types of fasteners, depending on the specifics of the job. Choosing the correct weld nuts to complete your application depends on a wide range of factors, including:
Application type
Parent material
Weld nut material
Type of welding
Base design
The Projection Weld Nut Installation Process
Projection weld nut installation comprises three distinct components. First, the nut with its projections is placed in contact with the sheet metal it will be welded to. Then the current and the force are applied almost simultaneously, within a specific time frame. This causes the now superheated projection to collapse rapidly under pressure, and fusion with the base metal takes place. Once the hex weld nut’s welding cycle is completed, the weld nut and substrate cannot be separated without destruction of the workpiece.
