Knurls hold these inserts in hardwood to prevent twisting. The flange keeps them from being pulled through a hole. Made of zinc-plated steel, they are mildly corrosion-resistant. Hammer them into a drilled hole to install them. The installed length includes the flange. These 18-8 stainless steel inserts have good corrosion resistance and may be mildly magnetic. Also known as knife-thread inserts, they have sharp threads that cut into hardwood for a secure hold. Install using an installation bit and drill.
