Industrial Applications
Typical applications include automotive brackets, electrical enclosures, control cabinets, HVAC equipment, machinery covers, appliance panels, industrial housings, and fabricated sheet-metal components.
Thin head rivet nuts are suitable for assemblies requiring reduced flange projection and clearance around adjacent covers, brackets, or mating surfaces.
Engineering Selection
Thin head designs reduce flange projection but do not necessarily provide a completely flush installation. Actual flange dimensions must be confirmed against the product drawing.
Smooth round bodies require appropriate mounting hole tolerances and installation control to achieve reliable retention and rotational resistance.
Blue zinc plating requirements should be confirmed against the applicable OEM coating and corrosion specifications.

Engineering Selection and Installation Guide
1. Thin Head Versus Standard Flat Head
Thin head blind rivet nuts are intended for assemblies where surface projection must be minimized.
Compared with a conventional larger-head configuration, a thin head may reduce interference with adjacent components.
However, thin head does not mean countersunk or completely flush.
Engineers should verify:
Maximum allowable flange projection
Flange diameter and thickness
Mating component clearance
Panel surface flatness
Local panel deformation
Available bearing area
Where a flush installation is required, a suitable countersunk rivet nut and corresponding hole preparation should be evaluated.
2. Mounting Hole Dimensions
The smooth round body requires a mounting hole with an appropriate diameter and tolerance.
An oversized mounting hole may reduce rotational retention, while an undersized hole may prevent correct insertion or damage the surface finish.
The mounting hole must be specified according to the approved product drawing.
For US engineering documentation, mounting hole dimensions may be expressed in both millimeters and inches.
Do not derive the mounting hole diameter from the nominal metric thread size.
3. Grip Range and Panel Compatibility
The published grip range of 0.5–5.0 mm (approximately 0.020–0.197 in) applies to the product series.
Individual rivet nut sizes and body lengths may have different approved grip ranges.
Select the correct configuration based on actual panel thickness, panel material, coating thickness, and assembly geometry.
For multilayer assemblies, confirm whether the combined thickness is compatible with the selected rivet nut.
4. Smooth Body and Spin-Out Resistance
Smooth round-body rivet nuts rely on the interaction between the installed deformation and the surrounding panel for retention.
Unlike knurled-body or hex-body rivet nuts, smooth-body designs do not provide additional geometric anti-rotation engagement.
For assemblies involving repeated screw tightening, vibration, or elevated torque, evaluate spin-out resistance under representative installation conditions.
Alternative body styles may be considered where greater rotational resistance is required.
5. Installation Procedure
Verify the selected rivet nut matches the approved drawing.
Prepare the specified mounting hole and remove burrs.
Inspect panel thickness and surface condition.
Select a compatible setting mandrel and installation tool.
Insert the rivet nut until the thin flange seats against the panel.
Hold the setting tool perpendicular to the mounting surface.
Apply the approved installation stroke or setting force.
Inspect the formed backside retention section.
Verify flange seating and internal thread condition.
Perform retention testing where required by the application.
Manual, pneumatic, or automated installation equipment may be considered when compatible with the selected product and approved setting parameters.
6. Color Zinc Plating and Corrosion Protection
The specified surface treatment is color zinc plating.
For OEM purchasing, the coating requirements should define:
Zinc coating thickness
Passivation chemistry
Additional sealing or topcoat requirements
Corrosion exposure conditions
Required corrosion testing and acceptance criteria
Applicable RoHS and REACH requirements
Compatibility with mating materials
ASTM B633 and ISO 2081 may be referenced when technically applicable to the selected zinc electroplating system.
Coating color alone does not establish corrosion resistance or restricted-substance conformity.
7. Installation on Painted or Coated Panels
Blind rivet nuts may be considered for certain pre-coated or painted sheet metal assemblies.
However, installation may damage coatings around the mounting hole or flange contact surface.
For corrosion-sensitive applications, evaluate coating damage, exposed panel edges, and any required post-installation protection.
Installation should be validated on representative production panels.
8. Open-End Thread Engagement
The open-end design permits the mating screw to extend through the threaded barrel when sufficient backside clearance is available.
Engineers should verify:
Required thread engagement
Screw length and tolerance
Total clamped material thickness
Available backside clearance
Potential interference with adjacent components
Open-end rivet nuts do not provide an inherently sealed threaded connection.
9. Thin Head Versus Large Flange Selection
A thin head can reduce surface projection, while a larger flange may provide greater bearing area against the mounting panel.
The correct selection depends on actual flange geometry, panel strength, local bearing stress, and assembly clearance.
For applications where local panel deformation or pull-through is a concern, the complete installed joint should be evaluated.
10. Mechanical Validation for OEM Production
Representative sample testing may include:
Installation stroke or force verification
Flange seating inspection
Backside deformation inspection
Internal thread integrity
Spin-out torque
Axial pull-out resistance
Repeated screw installation
Panel deformation
Coating condition
Corrosion testing where specified
Acceptance criteria should be agreed according to the OEM application and technical documentation.
International Engineering Documentation
JUXIN FASTENERS supports technical inquiries using metric and US customary dimensional systems.
For drawing-based sourcing, customers may submit drawings referencing applicable ISO, ASME, ASTM, or other relevant international standards.
Metric thread sizes remain identified by their ISO designations. UNC or UNF configurations must be separately specified and reviewed for feasibility.
Technical Drawings and CAD
The existing product information references detailed specification PDF pages 91–92 and related CAD documentation.
The applicable drawing should be reviewed to confirm individual dimensions, mounting hole tolerances, flange geometry, body length, and approved grip range.

Industrial Applications
Typical applications include automotive brackets, electrical enclosures, control cabinets,
HVAC equipment, machinery covers, appliance panels, industrial housings, and fabricated sheet metal components.
These rivet nuts are particularly relevant where a conventional large-flange fastener could interfere with adjacent covers, brackets, or mating surfaces.
Engineering Selection
Thin head rivet nuts should not be assumed to provide a completely flush installation.
The actual flange projection must be confirmed against the dimensional drawing.
Smooth-body rivet nuts also require careful mounting hole control and installation validation because they lack
the additional geometric anti-rotation engagement of knurled or hexagonal bodies.
For color zinc-plated components,
OEM purchasing specifications should define the required coating system and corrosion performance rather than relying on surface appearance alone.
