JUXIN FASTENERS manufactures thin head, open-end steel blind rivet nuts with smooth round bodies for low-profile threaded fastening in thin sheet metal, hollow sections, and compact industrial assemblies requiring one-sided installation.
The thin flange reduces head projection compared with conventional flat-head designs. During installation, the body deforms behind the panel to create a secure threaded attachment point without welding or tapping the parent material.

Engineering Design and Installation Guide
1. Thin Head Versus Standard Flat Head
Thin head blind rivet nuts are designed to reduce flange projection above the mounting surface.
This can be useful where adjacent components require limited clearance or where a conventional flange would interfere with assembly.
However, thin head does not mean countersunk or fully flush.
For designs requiring a truly flush surface, engineers should evaluate a compatible countersunk configuration and the necessary hole preparation.
2. Flange Height and Assembly Clearance
The flange height is a critical selection dimension for low-profile installations.
Before specifying the rivet nut, verify:
Maximum permitted head projection
Flange diameter
Available contact area
Clearance beneath adjacent components
Panel surface flatness
Mating component geometry
The approved drawing should define the flange dimensions and applicable tolerances.
3. Reduced Flange Contact Area
A thinner or smaller flange may provide less local bearing support than a larger-flange design, depending on the actual geometry.
In thin or relatively soft panels, local deformation around the mounting hole should be evaluated.
If the assembly requires a larger bearing surface or increased resistance to local panel damage, a standard flat head or large-flange rivet nut may be more suitable.
4. Mounting Hole Compatibility
Smooth round-body rivet nuts require mounting holes with suitable diameter, tolerance, and surface condition.
An oversized hole can reduce rotational retention. An undersized or poorly prepared hole may damage the rivet nut or prevent correct installation.
Hole dimensions must be obtained from the approved product drawing rather than estimated from nominal thread size.
5. Grip Range Selection
The published 0.5–5.0 mm grip range represents the available product series.
Each individual thread size and body length may have a different approved grip range.
Select the specific rivet nut according to the actual panel thickness and material.
6. Installation Procedure
Prepare the mounting hole according to the approved drawing.
Remove burrs and inspect the panel surface.
Select the correct rivet nut setting mandrel.
Insert the rivet nut until the thin flange contacts the panel.
Hold the setting tool perpendicular to the mounting surface.
Apply the specified setting stroke or force.
Confirm proper backside deformation.
Inspect flange seating and internal thread condition.
Evaluate rotational and axial retention where required.
Manual, pneumatic, or automated installation equipment may be considered when compatible with the selected rivet nut and approved setting parameters.
7. Installation on Coated or Painted Panels
Blind rivet nuts may be installed in certain pre-coated or painted panels, subject to application requirements.
However, installation can damage coatings around the mounting hole or flange contact area.
For corrosion-sensitive assemblies, evaluate coating integrity, exposed edges, and any required post-installation protection.
Do not assume that blind installation preserves all protective coatings.
8. Spin-Out Torque and Pull-Out Resistance
Smooth-body rivet nuts rely on correct installation deformation and interaction with the panel for retention.
For applications involving repeated screw tightening, vibration, or elevated torque, evaluate spin-out resistance and axial pull-out performance.
Knurled-body or hex-body alternatives may be considered where additional anti-rotation engagement is necessary.
9. Open-End Thread Engagement
The open-end design allows the mating screw to extend through the threaded barrel when sufficient clearance exists.
Verify screw length, thread engagement, and possible interference behind the mounting panel.
Open-end rivet nuts do not provide an inherently sealed threaded connection.
10. Surface Treatment and Compliance
The original product specification identifies blue zinc plating and references RoHS and REACH requirements.
Actual compliance must be established through applicable material and coating documentation.
ASTM B633 or ISO 2081 may be considered when defining zinc electroplating requirements, subject to the agreed coating specification.
No corrosion resistance rating or restricted-substance conformity should be assumed from the coating color alone.

Typical Industrial Applications
Thin head steel blind rivet nuts may be used in electrical enclosures, control cabinets, machinery covers, compact equipment housings, appliance panels,
automotive brackets, HVAC assemblies, and general sheet metal fabrication.
They are particularly relevant where flange projection could interfere with adjacent covers, mating panels, brackets, or other assembly components.
Engineering Selection
Thin head rivet nuts should not be assumed to install completely flush with the panel surface.
The actual installed head projection depends on the flange geometry and mounting conditions.
Compared with larger-flange configurations, the reduced head contact area may influence local bearing stress and panel deformation.
Engineers should verify flange height, mounting hole tolerance, panel thickness, installation stroke, and spin-out resistance before approving the assembly.
